Coarse, gummy fibres stripped from cocoons before they are reeled. The gum has not been removed making the fibres feel coarser than they actually are.
The gum in the fibres can be used to advantage. Natural silk 'paper' can be made by spraying the fibres with water and ironing between layers of silicone paper. Dried leaves or flowers or lengths of yarn or fibres can be caught in between layers of cocoon strippings. |
