Shashe is wild African silk produced by the Gonometa postica caterpillar
which feeds on Acacia and Mopani leaves. The fibre is 15 microns fine
and can be used and dyed like Chinese tussah silk.
In Botswana, the Sans Tribes make ankle rattles using cut female cocoons
of Gonomets postica and whole female cocoons of Gonometa rufobrunnea.

Fine fibres, 13 - 15 cm (5 - 6 inches) long, a warm golden colour
and a handle and character of its own.
