Commissioned by Walford Mill Crafts for the 1944 We Were Here: African American GIs in Dorset project. The work celebrates the life of the brown babies born in Dorset during and after the Second World War. Those whose lives we know something about are glimpsed through the opening in the mesh while those about whom we know nothing remain hidden below. Contemporary comments, official and unofficial, are included on the base.
